Some people still understand gay as a swear word. Gay means being a man who likes men - and therefore the same sex. Unfortunately, many people still see the word as a swear word. This becomes particularly clear when straight people...\" class=\"encyclopedia\">Gay<\/a> to be. People like the Minister of Health <em><strong>Jens Spahn<\/strong> <\/em>or<strong><em> Guido Westerwelle<\/em><\/strong> stood publicly (some more, some less voluntarily) by their love for men.<\/p>\n<p>But who actually outed themselves in a particularly spectacular way? Who became the <a href=\"https:\/\/schwulekontakte.com\/en\/lexicon\/outing\/\" target=\"_self\" title=\"Those who are coming out will soon tell the world that they are gay. By coming out, homosexuals declare to the world that they are gay (or lesbian). Many of those affected are afraid of this special step. However, it often turns out that this fear was completely unfounded. Nevertheless, a classic outing goes hand in hand with...\" class=\"encyclopedia\">Outing<\/a> forced? And how problematic (or unproblematic) is it to come out as gay as a politician in Germany these days?<\/p>\n<p>We have examined the best-known cases a little more closely.<\/p>\n<h3>The pioneer: Klaus Wowereit (SPD)<\/h3>\n<p>\"I'm gay - and that's a good thing!\", these - by now legendary - words <strong><em>Wowereit's<\/em><\/strong>, certainly also encouraged many citizens to come out of the closet about their homosexuality.<\/p>\n<p>Wowereit's statement was an important step on the way to a time when the topic of homosexuality should no longer be taboo in politics. With his outing, he was not only the first officially homo politician in Germany, but also one of the first in the whole world. Accordingly, the media echo was very great.<\/p>\n<h4>(In a way) forced to come out: Jens Spahn (CDU)<\/h4>\n<p>Also the current Minister of Health, <em><strong>Jens Spahn<\/strong><\/em>, is <a href=\"https:\/\/schwulekontakte.com\/en\/lexicon\/gay\/\" target=\"_self\" title=\"Being homosexual means loving people of the same sex. Being homosexual means being attracted to men as a man and to women as a woman. The fact that homosexuals are allowed to marry in Germany today is the result of a long chain of effort, education and tireless commitment. And yet: even though the rights of homosexual people have improved in the course of the last...\" class=\"encyclopedia\">gay<\/a>. What many comment on today with a self-evident \"So what?\" was long considered a big secret. At the age of 21 <em><strong>Spahn<\/strong> <\/em>to run as a member of the Bundestag in M\u00fcnsterlang. An opponent threatened him and wanted to make his homosexuality public.<\/p>\n<p>Thereupon had <em><strong>Jens Spahn<\/strong><\/em> his outing to his parents. They were very liberal about their son's sexual orientation. Afterwards, he openly admitted his love for men and today sometimes also talks about living with his husband in interviews.<\/p>\n<h5>The open secret: Guido Westerwelle (FDP)<\/h5>\n<p>What many had long suspected was confirmed by Bild in 2004 with the headline \"FDP leader Westerwelle loves this man!\". FAZ editor <strong><em>Hugo M\u00fcller-Vogg<\/em><\/strong> told at the time how he uncovered the open secret.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Guido Westerwelle<\/em><\/strong> brought his life partner to the birthday party of the current German Chancellor<em><strong> Angela Merkel<\/strong><\/em> with him and positioned himself with him in a photo in the front row.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Westerwelle<\/strong><\/em> and his partner <strong><em>Michael Schumacher chin<\/em><\/strong> did not comment on their private lives, but also never denied the headline. Every now and then, voices were raised that spoke of a stone being <em><strong>Westerwelle<\/strong> <\/em>fell from his heart, reported reading the headline.<\/p>\n<h6>Gay politicians? Not uncommon in many countries<\/h6>\n<p>There are currently several homosexual heads of government abroad. Serbia is ruled by <em><strong>Ana Brnabic<\/strong> <\/em>a lesbian prime minister. Luxembourg's Prime Minister <strong><em>Xavier Bettel<\/em><\/strong> lives with a man.
