In an effemination, a man is characterised by typically female features.
Effemination means that a man appears feminine in various areas. The corresponding characteristics can be either visually or psychologically recognisable. Particularly well-known examples that can be sorted into the category of effeminacy include a slight (or even absent) growth of beard and a particularly high voice.
But certain character traits that - at least by society - are seen as very feminine can also play an important role in effeminacy. For example, men who show emotions particularly often are often perceived as feminine by their environment.
However, the people concerned do not necessarily have to gay be. Rather, it is an individual expression of character or individual characteristics of one's own body.
However, some gays also use effemination to make themselves a little more feminine, for example by shaving their breasts or appearing very feminine. Often, changing the voice and making it sound higher is also a form of effemination.
In short: some people love their effemination, others do not feel comfortable with it at all. At the same time, at a time when Gender and the discussion around social images play an increasingly important role here, it is certainly difficult to draw a line. The question "What is typically female?" often cannot be answered clearly. Therefore, the field of effemination perhaps also always represents a piece of support for prejudices and the sorting into pigeonholes.
