"Wherever he is, that's where we are at home." - Klaus Wowereit on his life partner Jörn Kubicki.

Since the beginning of the 1990s, the neurologist and Berlin's former mayor a couple. Now Wowereit is alone, his Jörn died of heart failure after a long-term lung disease and an infection with coronavirus.

According to BILD am SONNTAG, Jörn said during one of his last public appearances a few weeks ago: "I have COPD, I can hardly put one foot in front of the other."

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease is treatable, but not curable. The alveoli burst, the gas exchange functions worse and worse, i.e. oxygen deficiency!

And then there's the terrible coronavirus in Jörn Kubicki's case

This time Jörn Kubicki did not have a guardian angel like five years ago: Back then, he crashed Wowereit's Opel Astra into the back of a truck on the motorway. He had to be operated on. His lung disease dramatically worsened his condition and he hovered between life and death for days. In those days, Wowereit did not leave his side.
