Because of Corona: Rainbow Ball 2021 in Vienna is cancelled

Rainbow Ball 2021 in Vienna cancelled because of Corona

Now it is a sad certainty: The Vienna Rainbow Ball 2021 is history. This is another event that has fallen victim to the Corona Pandemic this year. A sad first: until now the event has always taken place.

The decision was not easy for the organisers. Understandably so. For many, the ball is one of the absolute highlights of the year. However, it was not possible to hold the event under these conditions.

Can we celebrate again next year?

The fact that the Vienna Rainbow Ball is cancelled in 2021 does not, of course, mean that the event will not take place in the coming years either. Instead, hopes are high that the event can be celebrated again in 2022.

The Vienna Rainbow Ball has enjoyed great media popularity for years, but it also has another purpose. It's not just about partying, but also about raising money for a good cause.

The Rainbow Ball - what is the collection for?

The money raised at the Rainbow Ball is actually used in numerous projects from a wide variety of areas. Among other things, the corresponding sums are collected, for example, to support the community and the association HOSI Vienna.
to support. Said association is considered by many members of the LGBTQ Scene as an important point of contact around problems, for example in connection with an upcoming Coming Out and other challenges.

And in 2021? One thing is certain: if the ball is cancelled, no funds can be collected - at least in the first step. However, the HOSI in Vienna has come up with something special and wants to ensure that the various projects can still benefit from support.

The HOSI Vienna - who is behind the Rainbow Ball?

The Rainbow Ball is organised every year by the HOSI Vienna. The association was founded in 1979 and is considered the most important representation of lesbian and gay interests in Austria. The association campaigns for the diverse interests of the LGBTQ community and ensures, among other things, that the corresponding topics receive more attention in public.

A particularly important function of the association is to support young people who are struggling with coming out and/or have been discriminated against in the past. Here, the association sees itself as a particularly helpful contact point that not only advises, but also stands by those affected and informs them about individual possibilities.

Other goals that the association stands for include:

  • Legal equality and the creation of an anti-discrimination law
  • the reduction of prejudices
  • the rehabilitation of all lesbian and gay victims who were persecuted for their sexual orientation in the 20th century, for example.

However, for exactly this important work to continue, it needs not only a lot of commitment, but also money. The Rainbow Ball would have been a wonderful opportunity to focus on these (and other) goals while celebrating in a beautiful setting.

Let's hope that the event can take place again in 2022 in the same size as before and that enough people will support the association with a donation in 2020 and 2021.
