The LGBTQ Series hit "Love. Simon" from the USA finally makes it to a German streaming service. Fans had to wait a long time for this day.

In the meantime, the series is running on "Disney+" - more precisely: in the newly introduced category "Disney+ STAR" here.

However, "Love, Victor" is not the only work that should interest the community here, especially ( but not only). Other series that enjoy particular popularity among queers are also represented on the supplementary offer.

What is actually behind "Love, Victor"?

In fact, "Love, Victor" is a spin-off of another classic that also made waves shortly after its release: "Love, Simon".

This is a dramedy based on the novel "Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda" by Becky Albertalli.

The plot? 17-year-old Simon leads a seemingly normal life. He has a loving family and some good friends he can always rely on.

What nobody knows: Simon is gay. On the internet he meets a gay classmate who prefers to remain anonymous and calls himself "Blue". The two write to each other for a long time. One day, however, Simon forgets to log out of the school computer and another classmate reads the emails. He then blackmails Simon because he wants to be with his best friend. Simon then tries to set them up so as not to be outed.

However, after a date request is rejected by his best friend, the classmate publishes the correspondence between Simon and "Blue". In short: an exciting plot with many ups and downs and a very special message.

No wonder, then, that this plot literally cries out for a sequel, which is now becoming real in the form of "Love, Victor".

Why isn't the series actually shown on Disney+?

Good question! It was probably not due to a lack of success. The film hit like a bomb and attracted many viewers to the cinemas at the time.

Disney+ commissioned the sequel at the time as part of the Pride We are delighted to be able to include a new series on LGBTQ issues in our 'Month' programme.

In the end, however, the whole thing was broadcast on another streaming portal. The reason given for the decision was that some of the themes of the series were not in line with the family-friendly motto of Disney+. It remains to be seen whether this decision may also have led to the fact that (at least so far) there has been no reaction to the actions surrounding the "Give Elsa a Girlfriend" campaign. Possibly, however, Disney also feared that a lesbian princess would not be "family-friendly" enough? It is conceivable... .

Anyway: in Germany, "Love, Victor" has been on Disney+ STAR since 28 February.

"Love, Victor" closely follows the plot of the film "Love, Simon".

The series, also like the film, is set at Creekwood High School in Atlanta, Georgia.

The protagonist Victor has just moved to the city with his Puerto Rican family. He has to deal with the typical problems of a newcomer. In addition, he is gay. A circumstance that leads to additional stress, as he himself is not completely clear about his sexual orientation. When he falls for his classmate Benjo, he seeks advice from his classmate Simon.

The series aims to help undecided people to stand by their sexuality. It also focuses on the self-evident fact that it is not "bad" to be homosexual. Binge-watching is certainly not out of the question here.
